Teenage Girl Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Foster Mother in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 17-year-old secondary school student identified as Wumi, for allegedly fatally stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi.
The tragic incident unfolded at their residence in Oda, Akure on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, sending shockwaves through the community.
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, stated: “The suspect is in our custody, and we have initiated an investigation into the matter. However, the family informed us that the suspect had a history of mental health issues. Therefore, we are awaiting the medical report to confirm this. The deceased served as the foster mother to the suspect, having cared for her since childhood.”
According to reports from Vanguard, the suspect, currently in SSS2, had to discontinue schooling due to the exacerbation of her mental health challenges. Subsequently, she was enrolled in a private school to continue her education until the unfortunate incident occurred.
A neighbor, speaking to journalists, expressed dismay, stating: “She was advised to return the girl to her biological parents due to her condition, but she declined, perhaps believing that the care she provided would suffice. Living with someone with mental health issues poses significant challenges, which is evident in this tragic situation.”
As the investigation progresses, the community remains in shock over the devastating loss and awaits further details surrounding the heartbreaking incident.
